Fresh Water for Flowers by Valerie Perrin
Valerie Perrin’s Fresh Water for Flowers, in which an eccentric caretaker brings life to a small town French cemetery. The writing is “delicious” (says one reviewer) and “exquisite” (says another). First published in French, the English translation retains the beauty and flow of the original text. This is Ms. Perrin’s debut novel, and it has been translated into more than 30 languages.
This is an opportunity to dive deep into a book that inspires, challenges, and leaves a lasting impression. This Impact100 Martin member engagement series brings together women who enjoy reading books that make you think!
Join moderators Jill Preston and Linda Weiksnar as the group discusses the novelist and the novel.
Please RSVP by October 31, 2025
Although the event is informal, please ensure you have read the book if you plan to attend. It will be held in the private home of one of our members; the address will be provided to all who RSVP by the deadline. Please bring your beverage.

Impact Culture Club: Theater
Impact Culture Club at A.C.T. Studio Theatre is an intimate black box theatre dedicated to interesting, thought-provoking, dramatic, and fun productions.
Join us for an intimate theater performance of The Story of Mary Lincoln : 'Pass My Imperfections Lightly By”
A one-woman powerful play by Vaughn McBride. Mary Todd Lincoln was in many ways the first First Lady, a woman who insisted her voice be heard. Her awareness of the country's political pulse was instrumental in her husband's election as president. Mrs. Lincoln’s ego-driven idea of what the leader of a nation should be changed the White House into a figurehead residence fit for a president. She was an emancipated woman, but remembered as a shrew committed to a mental institution. The horrors of her husband’s death and her own confinement are lly relived by an exasperating, loving, pushy, flirtatious, manipulating, and unpredictable woman…not always likable but therefore never dull.
Cost: $30 (incl tax) Limited to 26 members, this is over 60% of the theater seats.
Note: There is an after-event gathering for discussion, drinks, and dinner at Renato's & Josephine's (separate event registration & pay on your own).

Impactful Conversations - Family: Planning for Elder Care Transitions: What You Need to Know
A Community Program to Understand and Address the Impact of Elder Care Transitions on Individuals, Families, and the Community of Martin County
We all know someone who is either caregiving or directly affected by memory loss. The challenges associated with aging and memory loss extend far beyond the individual, affecting families, healthcare systems, and the broader community. This crucial Impactful Conversation is designed to provide critical information and support, catalyzing a more informed and resilient Martin County. By bringing together experts and community members, we empower attendees to navigate the complexities of elder care transitions and memory loss with greater knowledge and confidence, shifting the community's mindset from crisis management to thoughtful, proactive preparation. This effort builds a stronger support network, strengthens our capacity to support the aging population, and fosters a more compassionate community.
Karen Ripper, CEO of the Council on Aging of Martin County, will expertly moderate the session. This event provides a safe and informative space for individuals and families to gain clarity on a topic often shrouded in uncertainty. By attending, you will:
- Gain a Deeper Understanding of Memory Loss: Dr. Paayal Patel, MD, Neurologist and Principal Investigator for Brain Matters Research, will help distinguish between normal aging and more significant memory loss, offering insights into diagnostic tools and the distinction between reversible and irreversible conditions. This knowledge is crucial for early intervention and effective planning.
- Navigate the Legal Landscape: Liane LaBouef, Elder Law Attorney, will discuss the unique legal needs and challenges of seniors. Learn about essential topics like Estate Planning, Wills, Special Needs Trusts, and the complexities of Medicaid Applications and Long-Term Care planning.
- Access Essential Local Resources: Donna True, LCSW, will demystify the first steps after a memory loss diagnosis, connecting attendees with vital local resources and support systems available through the Council on Aging of Martin County. This session empowers families with actionable information to begin their journey with a strong support network.
- Learn Practical Caregiving Strategies: Laura Zell, LCSW, will share invaluable "Tips and Tricks for Caregivers," equipping attendees with practical tools to manage the daily challenges of caregiving while promoting the well-being of both caregivers and care recipients.
- Connect with a Shared Experience: Ann Dugan, Impact100 Martin member and seasoned caregiver, will share her firsthand journey, providing a powerful and relatable perspective. Her experience will offer comfort and a sense of shared community, validating the challenges and triumphs of the caregiving role.
Join us for "Impactful Conversations- Family: Planning for Elder Care Transitions: What You Need to Know" to learn from our distinguished panel of experts. A helpful checklist will be distributed to help you keep track of the legal and medical issues that require attention. This is more than just a lecture; it is an opportunity to engage, ask questions, and become part of a community-wide effort to support our elders with dignity and respect.

Following the success of our Impactful Conversations - Environment, Preservation, & Recreation event, Impact100 Martin is thrilled to introduce a new way to connect with our community's commitment to conservation: the Impact100 Martin Nature Club! This new club invites our members and guests to step out of the meeting room and actively explore all that Martin County is doing to protect and preserve our precious environment.
