Join us for a discussion on Janelle Brown’s compelling novel, What Kind of Paradise!
This story introduces Jane, a young woman raised in complete isolation in the mid-90s Montana wilderness by her brilliant father, who sought to shield her from the complexities of the modern world. Their secluded life is built on deep convictions, but when Jane’s devotion is tested by a stunning revelation about her family's past, she is set on a quest to discover the truth.
Leaving the woods for the vibrant, yet confusing, world of early San Francisco tech, Jane must reconcile her powerful love for her father with his questionable ethics. This novel offers a fascinating exploration of parental legacy, the nature of progress, and the challenge of establishing one’s own moral compass amidst profound change. It’s an unforgettable read that prompts reflection on what we value and where we truly belong.
This is an opportunity to dive deep into a book that inspires, challenges, and leaves a lasting impression. This Impact100 Martin member engagement series brings together women who enjoy reading books that make you think!
Join moderators Jill Preston and Linda Weiksnar as the group discusses the novelist and the novel.

Atlantic Classical Orchestra "Into the Night"
Guest Artist: Hina Khoung-Huu, violin
Night has always stirred the imagination—its mysteries, its dangers, its dreams. This Masterworks concert ventures into that twilight world, where stories come alive, shadows stretch, and music dances on the edge of sleep and storm.
Beginning with Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, a feverish tone poem of witches and dark rites, which was most famously used in Disney’s Fantasia, the piece is a whirlwind conjuring of the supernatural.
The night takes on a different hue in Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. Rising star Hina Khuong-Huu, winner of the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition, brings her brilliance and depth to this haunting concerto.
The program concludes with music from Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Sleeping Beauty. The finale—the famous waltz—is matched only in popularity by the equally exquisite Swan Lake waltz, which is offered as an encore. These dances shimmer—even in the dark—and remind us that night is not just the realm of spirits and shadows, but of dreams and wonder.
Cost: $25. Limited to 28 registrations.
